basketball team will participate in the Samford Thanksgiving Classic, Nov.
23-24. The Lady Tigers will face UAB on Friday before matching up with host
Samford on Saturday at 3 p.m.

THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
The Lady Tigers are coming off a, 62-47,
loss to Big 12 member Kansas State on Tuesday night in the Gentry Center. With
the loss, TSU fell to 1-2 on the season. After just two games, senior Simone
Hopes has emerged as the scoring leader for the Lady Tigers with an average of
9.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Avery Jones is the second leading scorer
(8.3 ppg) while Chelsea Hudson pulls down a second-best 6.0 rebounds per game.
As a team, TSU is averaging 47.3 points
per outing while shooting 29.7 percent from the field and 0.59 percent from
beyond the arc. TSU is currently shooting only 59.4 percent from the free-throw
line while committing an average of 21.0 turnovers per game.
TSU averages 38.7 rebounds, 9.0 assists
and 11.7 steals per game.
LAST TIME OUT
TSU stayed close to Kansas State in the
first half, but after trailing by only three at the break, saw the Wildcats
pull away in the second frame. K-State defeated TSU, 62-47, in the Gentry
Center. Avery Jones paced the Lady
Tigers with 14 points and eight boards while Tanesha Stenson posted a
career-high 12 points in 22 minutes off the bench. TSU's struggles shooting the
ball continued as the Lady Tigers only managed to connect on 24.5 percent of
their attempts from the field. For the second time this season, TSU went blank
from long range (0-for-10).
ABOUT SAMFORD
Samford enters the tournament with a 1-1
record after falling to Florida State and defeating Jacksonville State. SU will
face Alabama State University on day one of the tournament before meeting TSU on
Saturday.
In Samford's win over Jacksonville State,
the Bulldogs came from behind to claim a, 48-45, win over OVC foe Jacksonville
State. Shelby Campbell paced the team with 17 points and six rebounds while
Kendall Schwantz also chipped in six.
Through two games, Samford is averaging
45 points per game behind a 32.1 field goal percentage. Schwantz (13.0 ppg) and
Campbell (12.0 ppg) are the team's two leading scorers.
ABOUT UAB
UAB is off to a 4-1 start this season. The Blazers', who have a win over
OVC's Austin Peay, only loss came to Vanderbilt. UAB also has wins over Alabama
A&M, MVSUW and Arkansas Pine Bluff.
In the Blazers' most recent win, they
held their opponent to only 25 points in the game. Everyone that played in the
game scored while Amber Jones led the team with 13 points. Karisma Chapman
posted 11.
UAB is led in scoring by Jones with 15.6
points per game while Chapman follows with 12.0 ppg and a team-best 7.0 rpg.
UAB averages 67.8 points per game while
shooting 41.6 percent from the field.
TSU vs. SAMFORD
Tennessee State and Samford will meet for
the 11th time in the program's history with SU holding a, 9-1, lead. In the
last meeting, the Bulldogs claimed a 67-59 victory over the Lady Tigers. TSU's
only win over Samford came during the 2004-05 season with a 45-38, victory in
the Gentry Center.

Tennessee State and UAB will meet for the
sixth time with the Blazers holding a commanding, 5-0, lead over the Lady
Tigers. The last meeting between the two teams, UAB defeated TSU, 82-61.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE

for a three-game swing in Montana. The Lady Tigers will face Idaho and Montana
in the Lady Griz Classic (Nov. 30-Dec.1) before matching up with Montana State
on Dec. 3. TSU will then have a nearly a two week break before hosting
Cleveland State on Dec. 16 in the Gentry Center.
