Nashville, Tenn. --- Tennessee State University senior
Jasmin Shuler was selected to the 2012 Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference women's
basketball team while TSU was predicted to finish fifth in the East Division.
Shuler, a 2012 All-OVC second team selection, led TSU in
scoring last season with 15.2 points per game.
The 5-8, guard also led the team in made-three pointers and three-point
field goal percentage.
"I'm very proud of Jasmin for being selected to the All-OVC preseason
team," said head coach Larry Joe Inman. "She
is a great player who has an opportunity to go on to even bigger things after
college. She is one of the hardest working players on our team and she is very deserving
of this recognition."
Shuler finished the season ranked ninth in the OVC in
scoring, fifth in made three-point field goals eleventh in overall field goal
percentage and 15th in three-point field goal percentage.
She posted a career-high 38 points against Morehead State
and was named the OVC Player of the Week on Jan. 24.
The Clarksville, Tenn. native posted 440 total points during
the 2011-12 campaign.
With 15 votes, Tennessee Tech was picked to finish first in
the East Division while Eastern Kentucky and newest member Belmont rounded out
the top three, respectively. Morehead State received 69 votes to edge TSU (68)
while Jacksonville State was predicted to place sixth.
On being picked to finish fifth, head coach Larry Joe Inman
had this to say: "Is that where we plan on being at the end of the year? No.
Every year we plan on winning a championship. We realize it will be a hard
fought battle but its something that's doable. We have the same opportunity as
every other team does when we start the season. Picks don't matter much now, it's
where you actually finish."
In the West Division, UT Martin received 19 first place
votes while Eastern Illinois registered five. SIU Edwardsville was predicted to
place third followed by Murray State, Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri.
Following an exhibition game vs. North Alabama on Nov. 1,
TSU will officially kick-off the season against Cumberland in the Gentry Center
on Nov. 9.
