Nashville, Tenn. - Senior libero Britani Hathorn has been named adidas® OVC Defensive Player of the Week for her play in matches against Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 21 and Morehead State on Sept. 22.
Against EKU, Hathorn led the team with 38 digs en route to the team's first conference win of the season. Hathorn's 38 digs set a new career high, and broke her old record of 29 digs that she set against SIUE last season. Her performance allowed the Tigers to open OVC play 1-0 by routing the Colonels 3-1.
In her second match of the week, Hathorn recorded a team-high seven digs in the loss at Morehead State.
For the week, Hathorn averaged 6.43 digs per set which is nearly one dig per set higher than this season's conference leader.
Hathorn now has 176 digs on the year- 67 more than the next closest teammate. She is currently ninth in the OVC with 3.59 digs per set.
Hathorn's award is the second conference award this season for TSU as junior setter Erika Moss was tabbed as the adidas® OVC Setter of the Week on Aug. 28.
Hathorn and the rest of the team return to action tomorrow night, Sept. 25, at 6 p.m. when the Tigers travel to Belmont.
