Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men and women's golf teams will kick-off the season at the third annual ASU Fall Classic this weekend.
The tournament will take place, Sept. 1-3, at the Par-72, 7,697 yard Robert Trent Jones Trail - Senator Golf Course in Prattville, Ala. The practice round will be held on Saturday while the first round begins on Sunday.
The 36-hole event will feature seven teams in the women's field and 13 in the men's.
For the women, participating teams include: Faulkner, Spring Hill College, Mobile, Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern and host school Alabama State.
Those same teams will compete in the men's tournament with the addition of Arkansas Pine Bluff, Benedict, Talladega, Baptist College, Alabama A&M and Savannah State.
The lone returnee for the women's team is junior Bria Norris. Last season, Norris participated in all eight events and was fourth on the team in stroke-average with 95.3 per round.
Four freshmen round out the women's roster.
The men's team welcomes back seven players including senior Cameron Scitern- the team's lowest scorer from a year ago. Also returning are sophomores Matt Campbell, Tyler Hendrickson, Dallas Hill and James Stepp. All five saw playing time as freshmen.
This year's TSU men's junior class includes Andrew Warner and Codie Welborn. The duo combined to play 35 rounds last year and four par/- rounds.
The opening round of the ASU Fall Classic begins on Sept. 2 at 9 a.m.
