Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee State men's basketball head coach Travis Williams recently sat down to discuss what he and the team have been doing during the summer offseason.

"[The summer] has been a very exciting time," Williams said. "It has been non-stop [action] since I was hired on Apr. 13 to where we are presently."

The biggest change to the program has been the addition of four new coaches to the support staff. The team added a new Director of Player Personnel in Gus Fraley,Student  Coach in Josh Copperwood and a Director and Assistant of Video and Basketball Operations in Miguel Brady and Chuck Davidson, respectively.

Williams and his staff have been out recruiting during the summer and thanks to a new NCAA rule, they have been able to hold practices. The rule allowed men's basketball programs around the country to have up to two hours a day of team practice with a maximum of eight hours per week.

The team has also been working hard to finalize the upcoming schedule. The Tigers hope to add two more home games, but are finding it tough to get quality opponents to come to the Gentry Center.

"[The team] has created a buzz- an expectation that we are going to be pretty good, so some teams don't want to play us," Williams noted.

On Aug. 24, the incoming freshman and returning players will move onto campus and fall practice will commence. The student-athletes will need to become acclimated with college life while also working hard in the gym and the classroom.

"The most important part is giving [the student-athletes] structure and situated academically, then we will have that first team meeting where everything is outlined for them," Williams said.
