Nashville, Tenn. -- Freshman Shea Morris was selected to the
Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer Team as announced on Wednesday evening by
the conference office. The right-handed pitcher becomes the fifth Tiger in
school history to be given this honor and the first since 2007. Emily Samana
and Candace Hildebrand were the first to represent Tennessee State
in 2006 and were followed by Tamara Perkins and Amanda Vaught in 2007.
Morris, who was named OVC
Pitcher of the Week on March 26, entered the final weekend of play tied for the
conference lead in strikeouts, but finished just short of the league lead with
190. The mark is second best for a single season at TSU only behind Amanda
Vaught's 261 of 2007.
Morris was the workhorse for the Tigers appearing in 38 games and
starting 31 with 201.2 innings pitched. The Lawrenceburg, Tenn., product recorded 22 complete games
including two shutouts leading to a 3.61 ERA. Morris was 11-22 with a save and
began the season with a win over SEC member South Carolina.
