Murray, Ky. - Tennessee State University men's and women's tennis fell 7-0 in both matches to Murray State on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers men fell to 0-8 and 0-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while the women dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-8 in conference play.
In women's doubles action, Cassidy Cunitz/Ashley Canty combined to knock off Lauren and London Thomas, 8-5, in a close No. 1 contest. Carla Suga/Carolyn Huerth defeated the Tigers' Melynda Simmons/Kryston Mason 8-0. In the third doubles point, Murray State's Ashley Pierson/ Jordana Klein won 8-0 over Khadijah Williams/Shardel Suber.
Cunitz knocked off Simmons, 6-2, 6-2 in the top singles contest, while London Thomas fell in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) to Canty. Klein won 6-1, 6-2 over London Thomas in the third slot, as MSU's Suga defeated Mason (6-0, 6-0).
In the fifth singles contest, Suber fell 6-0, 6-0 to Huerth, while the Racers' Pierson beat Williams in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).
In men's doubles action, Murray State's Arthur Valle/Daniel Heibel won 8-3 over Lawrence Washington/Shaun Ingram. Jose Berardo/Tyler Jeffers combined to defeat the Big Blue's No. 2 tandem of William Simmons/Jared Asher. In the third contest, Aleks Mitric/Dylan Gerlach won by default.
Washington dropped his second singles contest in a row, falling to Murray State's Valle in a hotly contested matchup (4-6, 6-4, 10-12). Berardo knocked off Ingram (6-0, 6-0) and Hiebel defeated Simmons (6-0, 6-1).
In the four slot, TSU's Asher fell 6-0, 6-0, while the Racers' Mitric defeated James Shelton, 6-0, 6-0. The Tigers forfeited the sixth singles point.
Tennessee State tennis closes out the regular season next Sunday, April 15 with a 2 p.m. match at the TSU Tennis Complex. At that time, the Tigers will honor its' lone senior, Lawrence Washington.
