Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee State University's men's and women's tennis teams dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at the TSU Tennis Complex.
The Big Blue men (0-6, 0-5 Ohio Valley) fell 6-1 to Tennessee Tech (6-7, 4-0 OVC), while the women (0-6, 0-5 OVC) dropped a 7-0 match to Southeast Missouri (4-8, 1-3 OVC).
SEMO claimed the doubles point with sweeps in all three spots. Nikole Novikova/Melissa Martin defeated TSU's London/Lauren Thomas, 8-3. In the No. 2 spot, Jessica Courtnell/Heather Robinson swept Melynda Simmons/Kryston Mason, 8-0. Elizabeth Nyenwe/Lauren Schaper won the third doubles set, 8-0, over Khadijah Williams/Shardel Suber.
In single's action, the Redhawks' No. 1 player Novikovsa won 6-0, 6-1 over Simmons. TSU's Lauren Thomas fell 6-0, 6-2 to Nyenwe in the second slot.
The Big Blue dropped the three through six spots. Courtnell won 6-0, 6-1 over London Thomas. Martin swept Mason (6-0, 6-0). In the five spot, Suber dropped a 6-0, 6-1 contest to Robinson, while Laura Garcia defeated Khadijah Williams, 6-0, 6-1 in the sixth slot.
In the men's contest against Tennessee Tech, the Tigers dropped the doubles point. Lawrence Washington/Shaun Ingram fell 8-1 to TTU's Vasily Eremeev/Artem Tarasov in the top match. Justin Kirstein/Alejandro Augusto won 8-0 over Jared Asher/William Simmons.
In singles, Washington won his second match this week with a 7-5, 6-1 drubbing of Tarasov. In the No. 2 spot, Augusto won 6-0, 6-1 over Ingram. In the third slot, Kirstein knocked off Simmons (6-2, 6-2).
TSU's Asher was swept by the Golden Eagles' Eremeev (6-0, 6-0), while James Shelton was swept 6-0, 6-0 by James Crawford. The Tigers forfeited the No. 6 point.
The Tigers women take on UT Martin at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the TSU Tennis Complex.
