Tennessee State University has announced the names of ten new members to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. The inductions will take place at the TSU Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel at 5:30p on Friday, November 5, 2010 as a part of the 2010 TSU Homecoming activities.

The 2010 class includes three inductees from Men's Basketball, Frank Lewis, Sr., Carlos Rogers and Anthony Mason; two inductees from Women's Basketball, Sharon Jarrett and Connie Swift; two inductees from Football, George Balthazar and Jesse James; two inductees from Women's Track (Tigerbelles), Estelle Baskerville and Shirley Crowder; and one inductee from Sports Information, Kindell Stephens.

Sharon Jarrett and Connie Swift are the first inductees from women's basketball into the TSU Athletic Hall Of Fame.

Brief capsules of the 2010 inductees;

George N. Balthazar (Football) - played football at Tennessee State from 1957-61 under coach Howard Gentry, Sr. and then Lawrence Simmons. All-American player and holds distinction of being first TSU player drafted into NFL (Pittsburgh Steelers. Since leaving TSU Balthazar has become a highly recognized photographer.

Estelle Baskerville (Diehl) (Tigerbelles) - ran track with the Tigerbelles from 1965-69 under legendary coach Ed Temple. Baskerville ran competed on USA international teams in 1965, 1966 and was a member of the 1968 US Olympic team.

Shirley Crowder (Meadows) (Tigerbelles) - ran track at TSU from 1956-60 under Coach Ed Temple. Crowder was an All American hurdler five times, a member of the 1960 US Olympic team. In 1959, held both the junior and women's national championship in the 80 meter hurdles.

Jessie James (Football) - played under legendary coach John Merritt 1968 and 1970-72. Has served as a coach with Merritt and Bill Thomas. As a student-athlete, TSU win/loss record was 37-4-1. As a coach TSU win/loss record was 131-42-3 including three undefeated seasons (1973, 1982, and 1984). James now serves as the TSU's Faculty Athletic Representative.

Sharon Jarrett (Women's Basketball) - played from 1979 - 82 under coaches Edna Overall and  Maxine Merritt and later coach Tennessee State, then know as the Tiger Gems (1984-86). Was the first women's basketball player to score 1,000 career points, scored a career high 45 points in one game. Jarrett was the first TSU women's basketball All American.

Frank Lewis, Sr. (Men's Basketball) - leading scorer on the 1948-49 TSU undefeated team under Coach Henry Arthur Kean. Team won TSU's first-ever National Basketball Championship. Played professionally with Harlem Globetrotters

Anthony Mason (Men's Basketball) - played basketball 1984-88 under Coach Ed Martin and Larry Reid. Ranks in top five of eight TSU records categories. Played thirteen years in the NBA winning numerous awards including NBA All Star and 6th man awards.

Carlos Rogers (Men's Basketball) - played for TSU under Coach Frankie Allen. All-American, led TSU to two Ohio Valley Conference championships (1993 & 1994). Named OVC Player of the Year (1993). Holds TSU record for blocked shots (186), blocks in one game (8) and one season (93). Named MVP on 1993 World University Games team (Gold Medal), named MVP of NCAA Tournament 1st round game against Kentucky

Kindell Stephens (Sports Information) - served in TSU's sports information office from 1978 through 2008. Long time "Voice of the Tigers" on radio. Stephens spearheaded the establishment of the TSU Athletic Hall of Fame (1993). Before his death, served as the athletics department historian and archivist.

Connie Swift (Thompson) (Women's Basketball) - played at 1992-95 and 1996-97 TSU under coach Teresa Lawrence Phillips. TSU's all-time scoring leader (2,054) and steals (302). Swift was a 3-time All Ohio Valley Conference player and 2-time MVP of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. Led TSU to 2 NCAA  tournament appearances (1994 & 1995).
