Monroe
Abram serves as the head athletic trainer at Tennessee State, joining the
athletic program in 1999.He is responsible
for the overall care and treatment of the program’s student-athletes.
Abram
came to TSU from MorehouseCollege in Atlanta,
Georgia where
he was the head athletic trainer.He
served in the same capacity at SavannahState from 1995 to
1997.He worked in sports medicine
clinics prior to joining the collegiate athletic ranks.
He
gained additional experience as a member of the 1996 Olympics Athletic Training
staff.He also has served as an intern
at the U.S.A. Olympic Training Site in Colorado
Springs, Colo.
Abram
is the chairman of the Ethnic Diversity Committee of the Southeastern Athletic
Trainers Association and a member of the Ethnic Diversity Committee of the National Athletic Trainers' Association.He also is an
examiner for the National Athletic Trainers Examination.He was honored as Tennessee Collegiate
Trainer of the Year in 2006. In 2007, he was named to serve as the Athletic
Trainer representative on the Tennessee Board of Athletic Trainers.
A
native of Macon, Ga.,
he graduated from Georgia
in 1986 with a degree in health and physical education.He received his master’s degree two years
later at Springfield (Mass.) College in sports medicine.
Monroe and his wife, Kim, are the parents of
four children, Maya, Arianna, Jamison, and Ella.
