MURFREESBORO, TENN. - Tennessee State Track and Field started the indoor season on Saturday at the Middle Tennessee State Christmas Invitational.
Ashontae Jackson led the way for the Tigerbelles by winning
the long jump and placing second in a pair of running event. Jackson won the
long jump with a distance of 20 1/2 feet (6.11 meters). The senior ran the 55 meters in 7.17
seconds and the 200 meters in 25.26 seconds.
Ja’Lyn Burr was one of five individual winners for TSU and the second woman to finish first. Burr had a triple jump of 38 feet, 8 3/4 inches (12.11 meters).
In the 400 meters, finished with a time of 58.03 seconds, good enough for second.
The Tigerbelles also took first in the 4X440 meter relay by 2.5 seconds, clocking in at 3 minutes, 54.86 seconds
On the men’s side, a trio of
winners paced the Tigers, starting with Royce Dates in the long jump. Dates won
with a jump of 24-6 7/8 7.49 meters.
Daryl Rice captured the top spot in the high jump with a height of 6-6 1/3 (1.99 meters). In the 800 meters, Jamill Jackson's time of 1:55.92 claimed first place.
The TSU men also took second and third in the 4X440 meter relay with times of 3:25.17 and 3:26.76.
TSU track and field is back in action on January 5th, at the Gentry Center for the Ed S. Temple Classic.
