Men and women's cross country to compete in Atlanta

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men and women's cross country teams will compete in the Morehouse College Invitational in Atlanta, Ga on Saturday (9/25).

The event will be held at Perkerson Park with the men's 8k scheduled to begin at 8 a.m, while the women's 5k will start at 9 a.m. This will be the men's first race of the 2010 season, while this will be the women move deeper into the schedule with their third competition.

The field of three Division I sand six Division II schools include: Clark Atlanta, Tuskegee, Fort Valley State, Miles, Stillman, Florida A&M, Albany State, and Georgia State.

The women are returning to the Invitational after a one year absence, while the men, in last year's event finished third overall in the final team standings.

The men will try to start off the season strong with the return of top 8K performers, Christopher Hobbs and Phillip Myton. Both are coming off their career best last season as Hobbs earned a career time of 30:43.30 at the Tennessee Tech Invitational (10/2/2009), while Myton clocked in with his best time of 32:38.35 at the Commodore Classic (9/19/2009).

The women are coming off a 13th place finish last Saturday (9/18) at the Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic. Top runners for the Tigerbelles were junior, Brittany Washington, who finished with a time of 21:52.60, and freshman, Tiffany Harris, who clocked in at 22:22.84.

Next up for TSU, both the men and women's team will head to Cookeville to compete in the Tennessee Tech Invitational.The race will be held at the Southern Hill Golf Course on Friday, October 1st. The race is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
