Tennessee State University's men's and women's cross country teams compete in the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championship this Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Arlington Club in Richmond, Ky.
The men will compete in the 8K course at 8:30 a.m. (CT), followed by the women's 5K at 9:30 a.m. (CT). Admission to Saturday's championship meet is free.
Senior Chris Hobbs finished as the Flying Tigers' top-finisher in four-of-five meets this season. His best time in the 8K came at the Commodore Classic, where he posted a mark of 29.03.30. The Athens, Ala., native placed a season-best fourth in the 8K (31:44.70) at the Kentucky State Thorobred Stampede on Oct. 7.
Jonathan Owens and Desmond Trice will provide solid depth for the Flying Tigers. Owens earned a top-finish in the 8K at the TTU Invitational with a time of 29:41.39 to earn 11th overall. He later placed seventh overall at the Thorobred Stampede, posting a time of 32:42.70.
Trice, a freshman from Memphis, earned the second best finish for the Flying Tigers in two meets. He ran the 8K in a season-best 29:49.00 at the Commodore Classic, before closing out the season with a run of 18 minutes at the Chattanooga Front Runner Invitational 5K.
Three Tigerbelles claimed top-finishes for Tennessee State this season.
True freshman Leah Carr earned the first two best finishes of the season. She tallied a time of 13:59 in her debut run at the Chattanooga PowerAde Invitational. She then ran the women's 5K at the Commodore Classic in 22:31.20.
Sophomore Tiffany Harris set the pace in two consecutive meets, posting times of 20:44.55 and 22:29.11 in the 5K.
Charita Harris also claimed a top-finish with her pace of 13:14 in the Chattanooga Front Runner Invitational two-mile on Oct. 15.
