Martinique Guice competed four years as a Tennessee State University Tigerbelle. She is an eight-time OVC champion with medals in the indoor and outdoor long jump as well as the 100 meter dash and 4x100 Relay. She graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in Family Consumer Science with a concentration in Child Development and Family Relations.

TSUTigers sat down with Martinique to talk about her TSU experience.

TSUTigers: Talk about your TSU experience.

M. Guice: My overall experience was good.  Throughout my four years I enjoyed being a TSU Tigerbelle.

TSUTigers: What do you love most about TSU?

M. Guice: The legacy.

TSUTigers: What will you miss most about TSU?

M. Guice: I will miss my coach and teammates.

What was your most memorable track and field moment at TSU?

M. Guice: My freshman year, we won OVC Indoor and Outdoor 2007-2008 season.

TSUTigers: What was your most memorable non-track and field moment at TSU?

M. Guice: Freshman year 2007 Homecoming concert, Lil Wayne performed.

TSUTigers: Talk about the transition of competing on the college level.

M. Guice: It was a slight change because I did not lift weights in high school, but it was easy for me to adjust.

TSUTigers: You won eight Ohio Valley Conference championships during your career at TSU. Was that a goal you set out to accomplish as a freshman?

M. Guice: It wasn't a goal, but I'm glad it happened.  I love long jump and the funny thing about that was I did not make the finals at the indoor championships my freshman year. Sophomore through senior year I won it.

TSUTigers: Did you feel any added pressure on being successful because your mom is an Olympian and two-time gold medal winner?

M. Guice: My mother has never pressured me, but her colleagues did.  While growing up people would always ask if I was going to compete in the Olympics. I would say no.

TSUTigers: What advice would you give to incoming freshman?

M. Guice: Be yourself and have fun because time flies.

TSUTigers: What was your most challenging class at TSU?

M. Guice: World Geography, the tests were ridiculously hard.

TSUTigers: What organizations were you a part of besides track and field?

M. Guice: My Sister's Keeper, FCA, SAAC, I was also in the Honor's Program my freshman year.

TSUTigers: Who have been the most influential people to you at TSU?

M. Guice: My mother of course, Mrs. Valencia Jordan, Mrs. Jennifer Bell and Ms. Gentry.

TSUTigers: What's next for you?

M. Guice: In August I will be moving to Tallahassee, FL to possibly pursue a jumping career.  FSU is allowing me to train with their jumping program. So I will sit a year from graduate school and continue to compete.

TSUTIgers: What have you learned at TSU that you will keep with you for the rest of your life?

M. Guice: People come in your life for a season and a reason so make sure you do your best to positively impact that person.
