NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State women’s cross country runner Oteia Prince has been named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Runner of the Week. Prince led from nearly start to finish in taking first place in a dual with Alabama A&M at TSU on Friday. The sophomore covered the 2 mile course in 13:23.59, which was 31 seconds ahead of second place.

The honor is the fifth in school history and the first since 2002 when Monique Demmons was named on two separate occasions. Rhonda Ward was the first to win the honor in 1991 and was followed by Candice Simon in 2001.

Prince has run in three 5K events this season and has improved her time in each outing. The Antioch native dropped two minutes from her first to second meet and another minute to her third run. Prince is ahead of her pace as a freshman with three meets to go in the 2013 season.

The Tigerbelles and the Tigers will travel to Memphis to compete in the Rhodes College CC Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 28. Start time is scheduled for 10:00am.
