Nashville, Tenn. - The Men and Women Golf teams will hit the links this week at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Tech. The two teams will do a practice round on Sunday, March 17 at the Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn., followed by play on Monday and Tuesday.
The Men will play 36-holes on day one of the Par-72, 6,928 yard River Course. On day two, they will take to the course for one round set at 6,907 yards. Both Days will have a shotgun start of 8:00 am. The Tigers will square off against a nine-team field which includes Detroit Mercy, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Newberry, Northern Iowa, Northern Kentucky, UT Martin and the host Tennessee Tech.
The Tigers are coming off a ninth place finish at the 13-team Grover Page Classic hosted by UT Martin. Sophomore James Stepp was the highest finisher for TSU at 12-over. Senior Cameron Scitern was in 11th at 4-over after two rounds, but had to withdraw early in the third round due to illness.
The Women will play an 18-hole round on each day on the Par-71, 5,802 yard Highlands Course. Play for both rounds will begin with a shotgun start set for 9:00 am. TSU will be a part of a 13-team field which includes Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Lee, Murray State, Newberry, Northern Iowa, Northern Kentucky, Presbyterian, Southern Illinois, and the host squad Tennessee Tech.
The Women were last on a course two weeks as a part of the Time Warner Racer Classic hosted by Murray State. TSU was in seventh after a rough first day of action, but they improved their play on day two. The Tigers were not able to enjoy their success for the final round as play was suspended due to poor weather. Freshman Kelly Merkel finished in seventh place with an 8-over, 80.
