Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State men's and women's track and field teams will be vying for TSU's first OVC Championship since 2008 when the squads travel to Charleston, Ill. on Feb. 22.

After taking part in five meets this Indoor Season, the Tigerbelles and Flying Tigers will try to end the year on a high note before starting the Outdoor Schedule on Mar. 15.

In TSU's last meet in Murfreesboro on Feb. 9, Quanisha Sales and Ashontae Jackson led the Tigerbelles with four top-three finishes. Sales won the 55 meter with a time of 7.13 seconds and also took third place in the 200 meter (25.45). Sales finished behind Jackson who came in second place in the 200 after running the event in 25.23 seconds. Jackson also placed second in the 400 meter with a final time of 56.24 seconds- the fourth best time in the conference this year.

Sales also currently holds the fastest time in the OVC in the 60-meter dash after running the event in 7.55 seconds at the TSU Invite.

The Tigerbelles will also look to defend their 4x400 title on Saturday after winning the event last year with a time of 3:47.70.

For the Flying Tigers, sprinter Michael Johnson will look for victories in the 200 and 400 meter dashes after finishing with season-best times of 22.34 and 49.24 seconds at Middle Tennessee. Those times are the seventh and third-best times, respectively, in the league this year.

In the field events, Jackson and Clairwin Dameus will be gunning to take home first place in the Long Jump as the underclassmen hold the first and second best leaps in the conference (20'.05" and 19'1.25").

Jay'Ln Burr will be another Tigerbelle to watch in the jumps as the sophomore has soared almost a foot farther than anyone else in the OVC this year in the Triple Jump (40'2.25").

In the Male Long Jump, junior Royce Dates will look to win back-to-back titles in the event as he took first place last year with a jump of 24'10.25". This year, Dates' best is 24'7" which is the second farthest leap in the conference.

The OVC Indoor Championship starts Friday and Big Blue fans can watch all the action on the OVC Digital Network.
