Nashville, Tenn. - After a thrilling upset win over Belmont on Thursday night, the Tennessee State men's basketball team will hit the road for a one-game swing against the Cougars of SIU- Edwardsville.

Against the Bruins, Robert Covington led the Tigers with 25 points on 7-of-9 shooting. He also made 3-of-4 from outside the three-point line and all eight of his free throws. His 25 were his most since Dec. 16 against Lemoyne-Owen

Kellen Thornton (18), Patrick Miller (15) and Jordan Cyphers (10) also scored in double-digits for TSU (15-11, 9-4 OVC).

Thornton also pulled in a game-high ten rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. Covington added seven boards, helping TSU win the battle on the glass, 35-30.

TSU's victory was its first against Belmont (20-6, 11-2 OVC) since 1987- before the Bruins became members of Division I.

The victory also pushed the Tigers' home record to 10-0 which is the team's best start in a decade. TSU only played 10 home games during the 1992-93 season, so the Tigers could break that mark with a win over Loyola (Md.) on Feb. 23.

Tennessee State also holds the nation's 22nd longest home winning streak.

The Tigers' record at the Gentry Center won't help them, however, when they travel to SIUE on Wednesday.

The Cougars come into the matchup with a 9-14 overall record and a 5-8 mark in conference, but they pulled off 65-60 win over Murray State on Thursday.

SIUE is led by Mark Yelovich (11.3 ppg) and Kris Davis (10.8 ppg). Yelovich also ranks eleventh in the OVC, pulling down an average of 5.8 boards per contest.

Davis has been a catalyst for the offense lately, and has tallied an average of 4.7 assists during the team's last 13 contests and a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Cougars also excel around the three-point line, shooting at a 36.5 clip while holding opponents to a 30.7 percentage.

Tennessee State is 1-0 all-time against SIUE having defeated the Cougars in the team's first OVC season last year, 52-49.

Wednesday's matchup is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and the contest can be seen on the OVC Digital Network.
