Nashville --- During the 2013 Athletics Awards Banquet, women’s basketball senior Simone Hopes took away one of the night’s top honors as she was recognized as the Female Athlete of the Year.
Hopes has been a member of the TSU women’s basketball team for the past four years. This season, as a senior, she showed vast improvements in her game while emerging as one of the leaders on the floor.
The Houston, Texas native was the leading rebounder on the team while ranking 8th in the OVC in overall boards. She averaged a team second-best 11.2 points per game as a senior after only averaging 4.4 point per games through her first three seasons.
After recording three this year, the 5-10 forward finished her career with four double-doubles. She was named to the Lady Griz All-Tournament Team in Montana and ranked in the Top 15 in the OVC in five statistical categories.
Her play helped TSU record its first winning conference record since the 2008-09 season. Her high-level of energy and defensive intensity aided TSU in staying among the top of the OVC team leaders in steals and blocks.
She will graduate in May with a bachelor’s of science in Chemistry.
