Tennessee State University women's basketball student-athlete Alana Morris was named to the Honorable Mention List for the Black Engineer of the Year's STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Award.

Morris, a sophomore guard with the Lady Tiger women's basketball program, holds a 3.073 GPA while majoring in architectural engineering.

A native of Bryant, Arkansas, Morris led TSU in rebounding as a freshman and she has ranked second on the team in assists for consecutive seasons.

Morris travelled to the 26th annual BEYA STEM Global Competitiveness Conference in Philadelphia, Pa., but was unable to attend the Student Leadership Awards Dinner to receive her award because of competition.

"It was an eye opening experience to see all of the companies that were at the conference," said Morris. "It gave me a glimpse of where I could be as an engineer and I'm grateful for the opportunity to travel to the conference and be recognized."
