Nashville, Tenn. --- Tennessee State University women's basketball player Destiney Gaston was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, December 6, for her performance last week.

Gaston (Columbus, Ohio) averaged 17.5 points and 9.0 rebounds while tallying six blocks and shooting 56.5 percent from the field over two games.

Gaston came off the bench to record 20 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals against Memphis. She was 8-of-11 from the field and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line in the game.

She recorded her third career double-double after posting 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with three blocks in the win over South Alabama. She was one of four players who posted double-figures to help TSU improve to 3-1 at home.

Gaston is currently the second leading scorer for TSU with an average of 10.3 points per game. The 6-3 center leads the team and is ranked second in the OVC in field goal percentage as well as blocks per game. She is 20th in the league in scoring.

She has scored in double-digits four times this season including three straight games. This marks Gaston's first OVC weekly honor and TSU's second of the season as Rachel Allen was named Freshman of the Week on Nov. 22.
