Nashville --- Tennessee State University freshman Tayla Foster was named to the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer team, in a vote by the league head coaches and sports information directors.

Foster, a native of Madisonville, Ky., is the Lady Tigers' leading scorer averaging 12.0 points per outing. She pulls down 4.6 rebounds per game and is shooting a team second-best 77.7 percent from the free-throw line.

The 5-10, Forward is ranked in the top 15 in three OVC categories. She is sixth in the league in field goal percentage, ninth in free-throw percentage and 15th in scoring.

Foster, the only Lady Tiger to receive All-OVC honors this season, has posted double-digits in 11 games, including five 20-plus scoring outings. Her most impressive performance of the year came against SIU-Edwardsville when she posted 33 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

Foster has also garnered a couple of weekly honors as she was named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week twice this season.

She was named Co-Freshman of the Week, on Feb. 7, after extending her double-digit scoring streak to seven straight games versus Murray State and UT Martin. She averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 53.6 percent from the field (15-of-28).

On Feb. 14, she received the award after averaging 24.5 points and 9.0 rebounds over TSU's two games the previous week. She shot better than 50 percent from the field in both contests while knocking down nearly 80 percent of her attempts from the free-throw line.
