NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Both Tennessee State tennis teams hosted Jackson State on Saturday for their first home matches of the season. The men were narrowly defeated, 4-3, while the women fell, 7-0.

The two Tigers both split the men’s doubles matches, but JSU won the point by virtue of TSU not having a third team.

No. 1 men’s player Daniel Bernal won a tiebreaker to give TSU one point, 6-3, 5-6, 7-5, and Kyle Burton scored another for Tennessee State, besting his opponent, 6-0, 6-1.

TSU’s Branden McClain (6-2, 6-0) and Joseph Daniels (6-2, 6-2) each fell in their respective sets to put JSU up, 3-2.

Jared Asher won his bout by default and so did JSU’s Marko Milosavjevic, meaning JSU won the match by one point.

For the women, JSU won all three doubles matches and Trinity Randolph lost to JSU’s No. 1 player, 6-4, 6-2, to put TSU down, 2-0.

Tennessee State’s Victoria Haynes and Attallah Eiland both lost, 6-1, 6-0, while Jade Daniels won two games in the first set, but fell, 6-2, 6-0.

Adrianne Presley was defeated, 6-0, in the first set, but had a strong second set, narrowly losing, 6-4.

JSU won the final point by default and beat the women’s team, 7-0.

The men and women will next host Graceland at 4 p.m. on March 15.
