Nashville, Tenn. - A shot in the final seconds by Murray State propelled the Racers to a 54-52 victory over Tennessee State in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon. 6,454 fans were in attendance at Nashville's Municipal Auditorium - the second most ever for a neutral site OVC Championship game.

MSU's (30-1) JeWuan Long connected a layup with four seconds remaining to give the Racers the game winning basket. TSU (20-12) quickly hustled down court before the ball was smacked out of bounds with one second remaining. Robert Covington's three-point attempt was no good, sealing the OVC title for the Racers.

Tennessee State shot 47 percent (22-of-47) from the field and out-rebounded MSU 34-to-24. The Tigers dished out 14 assists, but committed 18 turnovers.

Robert Covington led the Tigers with 14 points, four rebounds, three blocks and two assists. After the game, the junior forward was named to the OVC All-Tournament team.

Sophomore guard Patrick Miller collected nine points, eight rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a block. The Chicago native also garnered All-Tournament accolades.

TSU led by as many as seven in the second half with 15:01 remaining. Murray State charged back to take a four point lead at the mid-way point before TSU opened up to a five-point advantage down the stretch.

However, Murray State fought back and tied the contest by two free throw shots from Ed Daniel with 1:01 left in the contest. Long's shot gave the Racers the 54-52 win.

Tennessee State closed out the season with 20 wins for the first time since 1978-79. The Tigers were also the only team so far to knock off No. 9/12 Murray State. TSU is expected to play in the postseason, but an announcement will not occur for another week.
