OVC Newcomer of the Week Award Goes to Thornton

Tennessee State forward Kellen Thornton collected his third adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week award, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Thornton, a transfer from Illinois State, averaged 10.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in TSU's victories over Jacksonville State and Miami (Ohio). Thornton made 9-of-15 field goals (60 percent).

The Chicago product scored nine points and grabbed four boards in the 69-64 overtime win against Jacksonville State.

Thornton reached double-figures with 12 points, managing three rebounds two assists, two steals and a block in 25 minutes at Miami (Ohio) on Sunday.

This season, Thornton boasts 9.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in 28 games this season. Earlier this year, Thornton was named Newcomer of the Week on Jan. 23 and Feb. 6.

Tennessee State (19-10, 11-4 OVC) is in the midst of a nine-game win streak - the longest since the 1994-95 season. The Tigers host regular season OVC Champion Murray State on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game is televised nationally on ESPNU.
