Tigers unable to cure road woes with loss to Austin Peay

Clarksville, Tenn. Tennessee State University's trouble on the road continued Saturday night at the Dunn Center. The Tigers shot 35 percent from the floor and dropped a consecutive game with a, 79-64, conference loss to Austin Peay State.

TSU (11-14, 8-7 OVC) shot 31 percent from long range and committed 22 turnovers. It's the third time in four games the Tigers shot less than 40 percent.

With the score at the break in favor of the Govs, 39-29, TSU trailed by as much as 17 points in the second half. They narrowed the lead, 63-52, with 6:47 remaining and, 73-62, with 2:02 left on the clock. That would be the closest TSU would get down the stretch. 

Patrick Miller led TSU with 15 points and Robert Covington tacked on his seventh double-double of the season, ninth career. He scored 10 points to compliment a game high 11 boards.

Wil Peters scored 12 points, all in the last half, and Jacquan Nobles added 11 points off the bench.

APSU (16-11, 10-5 OVC) snaps a two-game losing streak while shooting 56 percent overall and 44 percent from three-point land. The Governors outscored TSU in the paint, 38-16, picked up the rebounding effort, 35-32, and dished out a combined 18 assists.

John Fraley gave APSU the lift needed, connecting 9-of-12, to lead all players with 21 points. He pulled in seven rebounds to go with a game best four blocks.

Caleb Brown followed with 14 points from 3-of-6 shooting while nailing both three-point attempts. He finished with game highs in assists and steals with five apiece.

TyShwan Edmondson added 13 points and a team high eight boards. Will Triggs chipped in 11 points, going 4-of-8 from the floor, while hauling in six boards.

The Tigers will conclude their road stretch at Tennessee Tech on Monday, Feb. 14, at the Eblen Center. Tip-off time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
