Tigers' road troubles continue with OT loss to Jacksonville State

Jacksonville, Ala. - The Tennessee State University men's basketball team's road woes continued with a, 76-73 overtime, loss at Jacksonville State on Monday night.

The Tigers shot 46 percent overall but gave up three turnovers in extra play that put the Gamecocks up, 69-64. The Tigers came within one point with a second left, but a foul on the inbound allowed JSU to connect two more free throws to insure the win.

TSU (11-13, 8-6 OVC) moves to a 3-11 road record dropping three straight away from home. TSU finished with 16 turnovers despite winning the rebounding effort over JSU, 35-30.

Kenny Moore led TSU in scoring with 18 points to go with nine boards. Robert Covington scored 17 points and recorded 8 rebounds while hitting 6-of-7 from the line. Both players shot 5-of-8 overall.

Patrick Miller added 15 points with four assists and Wil Peters held the game high in assists with seven.

JSU (5-20, 3-11 OVC) picks up their second win at home since their season opening victory against West Alabama. The win also gives them their first on home court in OVC play this season.

The Gamecocks shot 42 percent from the field, outscoring the Tigers in the paint, 30-26, and scored 18 points from TSU's turnovers.

Stephen Hall shot 5-of-6 finishing with team-highs, 14 points and seven rebounds. Jeremy Bynum closed the game with 13 points and Nick Murphy tacked on 11.

Brian Williams added nine points which included a three-point shot with three seconds remaining to send the game into overtime and five points in extra play.

Williams made a crucial steal, followed by a made basket, to strengthen JSU's lead. He also connected 3-of-4 free throws with under a minute remaining to help hold of TSU.

The Tigers will continue their road stretch when they travel to Austin Peay State on Saturday, Feb. 12. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Aaron Arena inside the Dunn Center.
