Tough night shooting slips the Tigers a, 74-65, loss to Murray State

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tigers ran out of steam down the stretch as Tennessee State University fell to Murray State in conference play, 74-65, at the Gentry Center on Thursday night.

TSU (10-12, 7-5 OVC) drops their third consecutive game while picking up their first OVC loss at home. The Tigers struggled from the floor hitting 37 percent overall.

Kenny Moore, Robert Covington, and Patrick Miller posted double digits in scoring to lead TSU. After a cold start, Moore finished with a team-high 17 points.

Covington added 14 points from 5-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, and a game high 7 rebounds. Miller tacked on 13 points and handed out a career and game-high seven assists.

After trailing 30-28 at the break, TSU found themselves down by Murray State's largest lead of the night, 65-53. The Tigers jumped on a 9-0 run to narrow the gap, 65-62, with 2:16 remaining.

However, down the stretch Murray State hit 2-of-3 from the floor and 5-of-8 from the line while holding TSU to three points in the final two minutes.

Ed Daniel scored six of the Racers' last nine points to finish with a career and game-high 21 points. Daniel shot 8-of-10 from the floor and connected all five free throws to help MUR shoot 51 percent overall. He also tied a team high, six rebounds, to go with two blocks.

Isacc Miles, Isaiah Canaan, and B.J. Jenkins also scored in double figures. Miles added 13 points, Canaan, 11, and Jenkins posted 10 to compliment six rebounds. Miles and Jenkins each dished out a team high five assists.

Murray State (16-6, 8-3 OVC) ruled the paint outscoring the Tigers, 34-14 while pulling in 38 rebounds to TSU's 37.

The Tigers will remain home for their next game against Tennessee Martin on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Gentry Center. The OVC match-up is scheduled for 7 :30 p.m.
