Tigers stumble at Eastern Kentucky

Richmond, Ky. - For the second night this week, the Tigers ran cold late in the second half to lose in conference play. Tennessee State University dropped their second straight with an, 86-72, loss at Eastern Kentucky on Saturday night at the McBrayer Arena.

The teams split the season series with each winning their match-ups at home. There were six lead changes and the game was tied five times. The Tigers largest lead of the night was early in the second half, 47-45. With the game tied at 55 with 10:54 remaining, TSU was outscored 31-17 while giving up baskets on two technical foul calls in the half.

The Tigers (10-11, 7-4 OVC) shot a season high from the floor in consecutive games with 51 percent behind Kenny Moore's game highs in points and rebounds.

He scored a career best, 25 points, from 5-of-10 shooting, including 15-of-17 from the line. He pulled in seven rebounds while scoring 17 points in the first half.

Robert Covington was the only other Tiger to score in double digits. He scored 13 points hitting 5-of-8 from the floor and 3-of-4 from three-point range.

EKU (12-10, 6-5 OVC) had four players in double-digits shooting 61 percent from the floor and 47 percent from behind the arc.

For the Colonels, Spencer Perrin and Justin Stommes scored 22 points each. Perrin connected 7-of-9 from the floor, 8-of-11 from the stripe, and hauled in a team-high six boards. Stommes was 7-of-11 overall while dishing out five assists.

Josh Daniel hit 4-of-8 from the floor, 3-of-6 from long range and was perfect from the line hitting all eight of his shots for 19 points. The Colonels pick up their fifth win in six games. Joshua Jones chipped in 10 points from 4-of-5 shooting.

Next, the Tigers will play at home when they host Murray State in conference play. The game is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 3, and will be televised live on ESPNU. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
