My TSU Experience: Patrick Miller

Patrick Miller completed a four-year career as a member of the Tennessee State basketball team by graduating in May. As an Economics and Finance major, he walked across the stage with a GPA of 3.5. Miller was one of the most accomplished point guards in school history, finishing sixth all-time in points with 1,900. In 2013, Miller set modern-era records for both assists (195) and minutes (1,186). As a senior, the Chicago native led the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring and was named to the All-OVC Team at season’s end. Miller recently signed a pro contract to play basketball in Turkey, but found time to talk to tsutigers.com to talk about his TSU Experience.

TSUTigers: Talk about your overall TSU experience.

A: My overall experience at TSU has been great. I managed to keep a high GPA. I have had good times and bad times with basketball but individually I had a good year every year.

TSUTigers: What do you love most about TSU?

A: I loved my basketball family and the parties.

TSUTigers: What will you miss most about TSU?

A: I will miss some of the get-togethers but mostly basketball and practicing in gentry.

TSUTigers: What is your most memorable basketball moment at TSU?

A: My sophomore year when we beat the undefeated Murray State on the road and J. Harris sung the whole way home.

TSUTigers: What is your most memorable non-basketball moment at TSU?

A: Going to speak to the kids for community service and signing autographs/ interacting with Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital cancer patients   

TSUTigers: Do you have a favorite TSU fan/supporter? If so, who?

A: Tracey Utley

TSUTigers: What advice would you give to incoming freshman?

A: Manage your time, get ahead in the classroom and just be focused on and off the court or field.

TSUTigers: What was your most challenging class at TSU?

A: Microeconomics

TSUTigers: Who was your favorite professor?

A: Dharmendra Dhakal

TSUTigers: What organizations were you a part of outside of basketball?

A: Econ/ Finance Society

TSUTigers: Who have been the most influential people to you at TSU?

A: Some of the current and former TSU coaches, like Miguel Brady

TSUTigers: What’s next for you?

A: Playing overseas in Turkey in the Eurocup League

TSUTigers: Once you are an alumnus, how will you stay connected with TSU?

A: Keep talking to my old coach and players

TSUTigers: What do you know now that you didn’t know coming in as a freshman?

A: How important it is to balance your day out and manage your time.  And the importance of always being active.

TSUTigers: What have you learned at TSU that you will keep with you for the rest of your life?

A: The importance of being self-motivated and mentally strong.

TSUTigers: Is there anything else that you would like to say to the TSU family?

A: I just want to thank my whole TSU family for giving me the opportunity to pursue my dreams at this University.
