NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After dropping a home contest against Lipscomb on Monday night, the Tennessee State men’s basketball team will hit the road once again for a game at the University of Tennessee on Friday night.

Against the Bisons, Patrick Miller led the Tigers (0-5) with 28 points and added three rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Miller has been the team’s key player all year long and has scored 37 percent of the team’s 303 points.

Fellow TSU guards Jordan Gaither and Jay Harris had big nights as well as Gaither scored a career-high 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting and Harris tied his personal best with 12 points with a 3-for-9 mark.

Tennessee State finally felt the effects of the NCAA’s new rule changes to increase scoring against Lipscomb. The teams combined for 58 fouls during the game, 40 of which occurred during the second half.

The 58 fouls were the most in a TSU men’s basketball game since Feb. 12 of 2010 when the Tigers and Tennessee Tech combined for 63 fouls.

The increase in free throw shooting could continue to be a storyline on Friday when the Tigers take on the Volunteers (2-1) at 6 p.m.

The Vols are only converting on 66 percent of their chances at the charity stripe, but the team does have one of the premier players in the country in Jordan McRae. McRae is averaging a team-best 20.3 points per game.

Tennessee is shooting 44 percent from beyond the arc this season and has a plus-five rebound margin.

TSU is 0-2 all-time against UT and last met in 2003, an, 81-56 Volunteer victory.

The Tigers are 1-20 all-time against teams for the SEC. The school’s only win came over South Carolina in 2011.

Tennessee State will look for its first victory on Friday night at Tennessee with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
