The 100 Moments of TSU Athletics presented by Taco Bell® series continues by remembering an incredible run that happened a decade ago.

The Tennessee State Women's Track and Field team won four titles from 2001 to 2003 including two in the outdoor conference championship and two in the indoor competition.

The run started in June of 2001 when the Tigerbelles took home the Outdoor OVC Championship. It was the first of six titles for Head Coach Chandra Cheeseborough-Guice.

Strong performances in the jumping contests, shot put and sprints earned the Tigerbelles 128.5 points, helping them edge Southeast Missouri by 6.5 points.

Sprinter Alexandria Wilson helped the team by finishing second in the 100 and 200-meter dashes while Monique Demmons added more points to team's total with a win in the 1,500-meter run.

The group's next title came eight months later in the conference's indoor championship. The Tigerbelles became the fourth different team to claim the women's indoor championship in four years, tallying 159 points and the first indoor title in school history.

TSU had the top two runners in the 60 and 200-meter dashes with Wilson finishing first both times. Wilson also won the long jump, earning her a share of the OVC Female Athlete of the Year Award.

The victory gave Cheeseborough-Guice her first OVC Indoor Coach of the Year Award.

Following their indoor title, the Tigerbelles defended their outdoor title three months later in the conference championship.

Leslie Leary and Jennifer Lawson placed 1st and 3rd, respectively in the 100-meter dash and Wilson won both the 200 and 400-meter dashes en route to a 37 point victory.

TSU also won both of the team relays, finishing with a time of 46.11 seconds in the 4x100 meter relay and 3:41.60 in the 4x400.

Having secured back-to-back titles in the outdoor competition, the Tigerbelles turned their focus on repeating as indoor champions in 2003.

That year, Leary was the star as she won the 60 and 200-meter dashes, and her 7.55 seconds time in the 60-meter set a conference record.

Leary's performance in the meet earned her OVC Female Athlete of the Year honors and the team's victory gave her coach, Cheeseborough-Guice her second straight OVC Coach of the Year Award.

The 100 Moments of TSU Athletics presented by Taco Bell® highlights some of the greatest moments in honor of Tennessee State's centennial celebration. A new moment will be released each weekday for a total of 100. These moments were chosen by the TSU 100 Moments committee, which consists of alums from various departments. TSU has so many great moments, not all can be represented in these 100.
