Inman Returns to EKU for Regular Season Finale

GAMEDAY
The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will close out the regular season on Saturday, March 1 on the road. The Lady Tigers will face the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky at 4 p.m. ET in McBrayer Arena. TSU Head Coach Larry Inman coached at EKU for 20 years, compiling a 319-244 record and leading the Lady Colonels to two OVC Tournament championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances.
 
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State is coming off a much need road win at Morehead State on Thursday. TSU defeated MSU, 71-66, in Johnson Arena. The victory improved TSU to 11-17 (8-7 OVC) and secured an OVC Tournament berth for the Lady Tigers. TSU also snapped a four-game road losing streak with the win.
 
TSU is averaging 69.0 points per outing while shooting 38.2 percent from the field. Chelsea Hudson leads the team in scoring with 15.8 points per game while Rachel Allen (11.4 ppg), Jayda Johnson (7.5 ppg) and Alana Morris (7.2 ppg) round out the top scorers for TSU.
 
The Lady Tigers, under second year head coach Larry Joe Inman, returned four letterwinners from last year’s squad and added eight newcomers, including seven freshmen, to the roster. TSU finished last season with an overall record of 13-15 and a 9-7 conference mark. In an Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll that was released in October, TSU was predicted to finish fifth in the East Division standings.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Tennessee State used a rally late in the second half to take control of the game against Morehead State on Thursday. The Lady Tigers had to fight the Eagles off down the stretch to claim a, 71-66, victory on the road. Chelsea Hudson led TSU with 21 points and seven rebounds while Jayda Johnson and Alana Morris scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.    
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Eastern Kentucky is coming off a close, 76-74, loss to Tennessee Tech at home on Thursday night. The Lady Colonels fell to Belmont prior to that game and have lost two straight.
 
In the loss to Tennessee Tech, Miranda Maples led EKU with 19 points while Marie Carpenter added 16. Pilar Walker (14), Shelly Harper (12) and Michaela Hunter (10) also registered double-digits for the Lady Colonels
 
Overall, EKU is led in scoring by Marie Carpenter’s 21.5 points per game. Shelly Harper (10.9 ppg) and Pilar Walker (9.1 ppg) round out the top three scorers for the Lady Colonels.
 
As a team, the Lady Colonels average, 69.3 points per game while shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 33.8 percent from long range.
 
TSU vs. EASTERN KENTUCKY
Tennessee State will match-up with Eastern Kentucky for the 52nd time in the series history with EKU holding a, 36-17, advantage.  In the first meeting of the season, TSU defeated EKU, 78-63, in the Gentry Center.  TSU has won two straight over EKU. The Lady Colonels’ last win over the Lady Tigers was a, 62-54, win on Jan. 28, 2013.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET
TSU defeated EKU to hand the Lady Colonels, at the time, only their second league loss of the season. TSU led by 15 before EKU pulled to within three. The Lady Tigers maintained their composure and used a 12-3 run to regain control. TSU led by as many as 21 before going on to win.
 
Chelsea Hudson recorded her seventh double-double of the year, third consecutive, with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Alana Morris scored in double-figures for the fourth straight game with 13 points while Briana Morrow (12) and Rachel Allen (10) also finished in double-digits. Allen also recorded five assists and two steals in the contest.
 
Eastern Kentucky was led in scoring by Marie Carpenter’s 18 points. Miranda Maples added 12 while Michaela Hunter scored 11. Shelly Harper chipped 10 points and eight rebounds.
