The Tennessee State University women's basketball team will return to
action on Saturday, Jan. 19 with a cross-town match-up against the OVC's newest
member Belmont. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. in the Curb Event Center. The contest will also be the Think Pink
game.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State (6-9, 2-2 OVC) is coming off a , 68-58, home win over
Southeast Missouri on Monday. TSU took the lead early the first half and never
relinquished the advantage. Kesi Hess paced the Lady Tigers with 18 points
while Simone Hopes added 14. TSU is currently in fourth place in the East
standings.
Tennessee State's three top leading scorers are Kesi Hess (9.8 ppg), Jasmin Shuler (10.1 ppg), and Simone Hopes (9.2 ppg). Hopes also leads the Lady Tigers in rebounding with 6.7 boards per outing.
As a team, TSU is averaging 58.9 points per contest while shooting 36.3 percent from the field and 27.7 percent from beyond the arc. TSU is currently shooting only 68.3 percent from the free-throw line while committing an average of 17.7 turnovers per game.
TSU averages 35.7 rebounds, 10.3 assists and 9.9 steals per game. The Lady Tigers are under first year head coach Larry Joe Inman.
LAST TIME OUT
Tennessee State outscored Southeast Missouri, 40-16, in the paint and
forced the Redhawks to 24 turnovers. Kesi Hess (18) and Simone Hopes (14) led
TSU in scoring while Chelsea Hudson added nine points and six rebounds off the
bench. The Lady Tigers made 20-of-28 free-throws in the contest. The Lady Tigers only committed 15
turnovers and shot nearly 40 percent from the floor.
ABOUT BELMONT
Belmont is off to a good start in conference play as the Bruins picked
up wins over UT Martin and Murray State recently.
The victory over Murray State, improved the Bruins' to 10-8 overall and extended their win streak to three games. BU is currently 5-1 in the league and sits in first place in the East standings.
Katie Brooks leads the team in scoring with 10.3 points per game while Jordan Coleman follows with 9.7 ppg. Coleman is also the team's leading rebounder with 10.0 caroms per contest.
As a team, BU averages 60.3 points per game behind a 40.0 field goal percentage. The Bruins shoot 30.2 percent from the three-point line and 72.4 percent from the charity stripe.
Belmont registers 35.2 rebounds, 14.4 assists, 5.1 steals and 3.5 blocks per game.

Tennessee State and Belmont will meet for the 30th time in the series
history. BU holds a 22-7 series advantage. The Bruins claimed the last meeting,
80-66, in the Curb Event Center two
seasons ago.
