My TSU Experience: Erika Moss

Erika Moss played four years as the starting setter for the TSU volleyball team. During her stellar career she was named to the All-OVC First team three consecutive years and gained  a number of other accolades, including being named the Cobra Magazine Setter of the Year in 2011.

Erika, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind.,  graduated from Tennessee State with a bachelor’s degree in business on May 11.

TSUTigers: Talk about your overall TSU experience.

A: My experience was a one to remember both good and bad. I constantly had to keep making adjustments to different situations and changes thrown my way with school and volleyball but I was able to manage. I enjoyed the friends I have made within my team and outside of volleyball. Being a student-athlete made it ten times more eventful and memorable for my experience. I will never forget the accomplishments and knowledge I have gained here as a student-athlete.

TSUTigers: What do you love most about TSU?

A: I love the atmosphere and the location of it being in Nashville.

TSUTigers: What will you miss most about TSU?

A: Homecoming and big events thrown by the university and student body. Also the college life of being a student-athlete.

TSUTigers: What is your most memorable volleyball moment at TSU?

A: Traveling to Portland, OR to play and beating Memphis 3 times in a row.

TSUTigers: What is your most memorable non-volleyball moment at TSU?

A: Homecoming week

TSUTigers: Do you have a favorite TSU fan/supporter? If so, who?

A: Mike Marshall, he's been our number 1 fan since I stepped on campus

TSUTigers: What advice would you give to incoming freshman?

A: To come in with an open mind, have good time management right away and keep track of your courses so you graduate on time. Also to surround yourself with positive, fun and influential people.

TSUTigers: What was your most challenging class at TSU?

A: Marketing strategy and marketing research

TSUTigers: Who was your favorite professor?

A: Dr. Powers

TSUTigers: What’s next for you?

A: Training, traveling and playing overseas for volleyball

TSUTigers: Once you are an alumnus, how will you stay connected with TSU?

A: Keeping up with teammates and friends and social networking connected to the University

TSUTigers: What do you know now that you didn’t know coming in as a freshman?

A: I did not know there was a downtown campus associated with business and other major courses.

TSUTigers: What have you learned at TSU that you will keep with you for the rest of your life?

A: To be prepared and expect the unexpected and to not be afraid to be yourself regardless of what atmosphere or environment you get put in.

TSUTigers: Is there anything else that you would like to say to the TSU family?

A: Thank you for all that you have done for me as a student-athlete and taught me through my years at Tennessee State University. Go Tigers!
