Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State cross country teams began the season on Friday at the Belmont Opener held at Percy Warner Park. Both competitions were 5K runs on an afternoon that saw temperatures reach as high as 98 degrees.
Quamel Prince paced the men’s squad in a time of 18:26.38. Senior Adrian McDaniel crossed the line at 19:23.76, while Theodore Nicholson (20:05.38), Jaheel Michael (20:20.62), and Jalon McCutcheon (21:16.48) scored for TSU.
Jakeena Guthrie (22:35.31), Jason Griffin (22:36.58), Osafa Hippolyte (26:04.35) and Emanuel Thornton (28:20.87) all ran non-countable times.
The Tigerbelles were led by Oteia Prince and Michelle Bradley. Prince finished in 23:29.67, while Bradley crossed at 24:31.92. Breanna Adams posted a time of 25:23.31 and finished ahead of Jasmine Owens (26:30.57). Ashontae Jackson (28:20.71) just edged out Diera Taylor (28:20.93) for the final scoring spot for TSU.
India Smith (31:23.80), Asianna Cannon (32:27.45) and LaToya Harze (32:27.64) all ran for the Tigerbelles in non-countable times.
The two teams will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the Bobby Lang Invitational. The meet hosted by Florida A&M will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7.
