Nashville, Tenn. --- Tennessee State University volleyball senior Shaquita Williams was named the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year while senior Terakka Walker and sophomore Erika Moss also earned All-OVC team honors.

Williams becomes the first Tennessee State volleyball player to receive Player of the Year honors since the award began in 1985. This also marks the first time that TSU has had three-players on the first-team. The Tigers had three-players to garner All-OVC second team honors in 2005.

Williams, Walker and Moss each played an instrumental role in the Tigers' success this season. Last season, TSU finished the campaign in eighth place with a record of 9-18 (7-11 OVC) and missed the post season for the third consecutive year. 2011, however, was a different story as the Tigers earned a second seed after posting a 13-7 OVC mark with an overall record of 18-10.

Williams (6-0, Middle Blocker/ Outside Hitter) has been the offensive leader for TSU the entire season as she averages 3.80 kills per set behind a .308 hitting percentage. She also leads the team in service aces and blocks. She is in the top five in four career categories for TSU, including career kills, service aces, block assists and total blocks. She has been named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week twice during her career and was selected to the 2010 All-OVC team.

The Huntsville, Ala. native leads the OVC and ranks fifth in the NCAA in service aces. She also leads the league in points per set while ranking 30th nationally.  She has posted double-figure kills in all except three matches and has five 20-plus kill performances this season. She is expected to graduate from Tennessee State with a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences in May 2012.

Walker (5-10, Outside Hitter) averages the second-most kills on the team with 2.85 per set. She is also second on the team in digs and third in blocks. She is currently third among TSU career leaders in digs, fifth in career kills and seventh in career attacks. She has registered 12 double-doubles this season and is expected to graduate from Tennessee State with a bachelor's degree in business in May 2012.

Moss (5-9, Setter) has guided the TSU offense the entire season as she ranks second in the OVC in set assists with 10.48 per frame. She has tallied 88 kills this season with a .249 hitting percentage. She has now moved into second place on TSU's all-time career set assists list. A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., she dished out 40-plus assists 17 times and was named to the 2010 All-OVC newcomer team.

The 2011 Ohio Valley Conference is slated to begin on Thursday, Nov. 17 at host Morehead State. As the second seed, Tennessee State receives a first-round bye. The Tigers will face the winner of match one ( UT Martin/ Jacksonville State) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. EST.
