Volleyball heads to EKU for mid-week match up

Nashville ---The Tennessee State University volleyball team will return to action with a match at Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 6 p. m.

Tennessee State (3-9 OVC) has dropped six straight and is currently in eighth place in the league race while Eastern Kentucky (8-4 OVC) is in third. The Colonels have won six of their last seven contests.

With the OVC tournament drawing near, TSU will look to make a push towards the top six. 

In the previous meeting between the two teams, EKU pulled off the five-set win, as TSU fell 2-3 (18-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-23, 13-15).

Last week, the Tigers fell to Murray State (25-27, 25-27, 12-25) and UT Martin (20-25, 30-28, 16-25, 25-12, 13-15). Senior Sanita Sanders posted a pair of double-doubles, including an 18-kill, 18-dig performance versus UT Martin. She finished the week with 30 kills and 31 digs. Junior Shaquita Williams also tallied 30 kills over the two matches. 

EKU split a pair of road conference matches last week. The Colonels had their five-match win streak snapped as they fell to Jacksonville State (19-25, 21-25, 20-25) before defeating Tennessee Tech (28-26, 25-16, 11-25, 25-18). Senior Lauren Synder led the Colonels in the loss to JSU with nine kills while freshman Robyn Hench finished with 25 assists and two block assists. In the win over Tech, Synder was one of three Colonels to record 10 or more kills. She finished with a team-best 15 and made only one error for a .424 attack percentage. Autumn Harms had 13 kills and five blocks

Match time is slated for 6 p.m.at MeBrayer Arena. 

Following Tuesday's match, Tennessee State will return to Kean Hall to host the final to conference home contests of the season. The Tigers will face Tennessee Tech on Friday before hosting Jacksonville State on Saturday.

Friday will be "Black Out NIght" and all fans are encouraged to wear black. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in continuance with the "Dig for the Cure" fundraising effort, all fans are asked to wear pink to the match vs. Jacksonville State on Saturday.
