Clarksville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State volleyball team traveled to Austin Peay on Tuesday night for the squad’s second spring tournament, and came away with three wins and zero losses.
The clean sweep comes one week after the Tigers won three contests against Memphis, UT Martin and Alabama State.
In TSU’s first match against the host school, the Tigers narrowly dropped the first set to the Lady Govs, 24-26. Tennessee State rebounded nicely in frame two, squeaking out a 25-22 victory. In the match’s third and final set, the Tigers edged Austin Peay, 15-12, to earn win number one on the day.
Last year, Tennessee State ended the Governors season with a 3-1 victory in the OVC Tournament.
Up next for TSU, was another in-state opponent in Trevecca. The Trojans were no match for the Tigers, as Tennessee State dispatched them in straight sets, 25-13, 26-24.
TSU came into the match against Trevecca with a 4-9 all-time record against TNU.
Tennessee State played fellow OVC-member Belmont to wrap up Tuesday’s schedule and easily handled the Bruins. TSU won the first set, 25-17, and matched that mark in frame two to complete the sweep.
TSU and Belmont split the season series at one match apiece with each school notching wins on the other’s home court.
The impressive showing pushes the Tigers’ spring record to 6-1. Tennessee State’s only loss has come at the hands of Ole Miss.
TSU will next play at Midddle Tennessee State on Saturday at 10 a.m.
