Gainesville, Fla. – Long jumpers Ashontae Jackson and Royce Dates each had strong showings for the Tennessee State track and field teams in the Pepsi Relays hosted by the University of Florida.

Jackson, a sophomore from Gordonville, Va., placed third in the women’s long jump with a career-best leap of 6.14 meters. She also had a better final than some of the best jumpers in the nation from schools such as Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Florida and Florida State

On the men’s side, Dates was TSU’s top performer, placing seventh with a hop of 7.06 meters in the long jump. Although his mark was not his personal-best, his performance was still better than jumpers from some of largest schools in Division I.

Another strength for the Tennessee State teams was in the relays.

The Tigerbelles put together a team of Brielle Moore, Clairwin Dameus, LaTia Carney and Brianna Woodson, and the squad responded by putting up a sixth place finish in 4x100 meter shuttle hurdle run with a final time of 1:00.49.

The TSU women had another top-ten finish when Breanna Adams teamed with Diera Taylor, Kya Riley and Oteia Prince to complete the 1600-meter sprint medley in 4:05.46.

Finishing just outside the top-ten was the team of Dameus, Jackson, Taylor and Quanisha Sales that placed 11th in 4x200 meter with a time of 1:36.73. The TSU squad outlasted other teams from Tennessee, Mississippi and Syracuse.

For the Flying Tigers, the team of Michael Johnson, Jordan Green, Osafa Hippolyte and Tyler Anderson came in 14th place in the men’s 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:27.33.

Johnson later teamed with Dates, Green and Anderson to place 24th in the men’s 4x100 meter relay, finishing the event in 42.03 seconds.

Junior Britani Logan also represented her school well, placing 14th in the women’s shot put with a season-best toss of 13.15 meters.

Tennessee State will come home this weekend to host the Boston/Moon Relays on Saturday, April 13.
