Cross Country Starts Season in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The 2012 cross country season kicked off for Tennessee State on Friday afternoon at the 27th annual PowerAde Invitational hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

On the women's side, Oteia Prince ran the two mile course in a team best 14 minutes, 38 seconds, while Charita Harris was less than a second behind.


Michelle Bradley placed 37th, just behind Harris, clocking in at 14:45.


Chattanooga led the way for the women with 49 points followed by Middle Tennessee in second with 62 points. Austin Peay placed third with 68 points and UT Martin scored 81 points for fourth.  Alabama A&M and
Covenant College each had 153 points to tie for fifth, while Tennessee State finished seventh with 195 points.

For the men, Jamill Jackson was the top finishing Tiger in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:57.

Jackson was followed by four TSU runners that finished in secession as Jalon McCuthceon (19:44), Jonathan Owens (19:46), Donnie Johnson (20:10) and Vincent Gilmore (20:20) took spots 35-38.

Middle Tennessee State won the overall title for the men with 26 points. The host Chattanooga was the runner-up with 32 points. UT Martin came in thrid with 67, followed by Austin Peay with 103. Covenant College claimed fifth place with 148 points, while the Tigers had 150.

TSU is back in action this Saturday at the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt in Nashville starting at 9 a.m.
