Washington Named OVC Tennis Athlete of the Week

Tennessee State University senior Lawrence Washington earned Ohio Valley Conference Male Tennis Athlete of the Week after completing a 4-0 mark last week for the Tigers. The award was announced Wednesday by the league office.  

Washington picked up a 7-5, 4-6, 10-2 win over Western Kentucky's Josh Smith and a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory over Jacksonville State's Alex Sundberg last weekend.

On Monday, Washington earned two singles points over Mississippi Valley State's Chartese Jones to help TSU to its' first two wins of the season.

The Canton, Mich., native teamed up with Shaun Ingram to win a pair of doubles matches, 8-0, over the Delta Devils.

Washington closed out the season with a 7-4 record and his career with a 20-18 overall record for the Tigers. The honor is the third in Washington's career. He earned the honor on March 23, 2010 and March 31, 2010.

TSU finished the season 2-10 overall and 0-8 in the OVC, falling short of the conference tournament.
