NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State men’s golf team was tabbed to finish ninth in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. TSU was picked to finish ahead of Morehead State and Eastern Illinois. The poll is voted on by the conference head coaches.
The defending OVC champions, Austin Peay, picked up eight first-place votes and sits atop the rankings. Belmont received the final three, top votes, and is second. Jacksonville State, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin, Eastern Kentucky, Murray State and SIUE follow and are just in front of the Tigers.
Senior Andrew Warner leads the Tigers into 2014 after posting a team best 73.1 average in the fall. Entering the spring, Warner is currently tied for 13th in the OVC. Junior James Stepp (73.7) finished third at the OVC Championships in 2013 and will team up with Warner to pace the Tigers. Senior Codie Welborn (76.6) and transfer Blake Burgett (74.4) will supply support to the TSU attack.
TSU kicks off the spring with 36-holes on day one of the Grover Page Classic hosted by UT Martin. The two-day tournament is held in Jackson, Tenn., on Mar. 10-11.
