2012 OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS

Dickson, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University men's golf team wrapped up action at the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Championship Saturday afternoon at GreyStone Golf Club. The Tigers finished the tournament in ninth place.

As a team, TSU improved14 strokes from the second to the third frame with a tournament-best round score of 291. The Tigers finished with a team total of 911 (305-310-296).

Freshman James Stepp finished tied for 22nd and led the way for TSU with a (+7) 223. The All-OVC Newcomer selection paced the Tigers after day one with a two-over-par 74 before posting 75 in the second round. In round three, he shot an even-par 36 on the front nine before carding 38 on the back nine for a score of 74.

Sophomore Ryan Pierson, finished in a tie for 33rd place after shooting his best round of the tournament in the final frame.  In round three, he posted an even par 36 on the front nine before carding a one-under-par 35 for a total score of 71. He opened the tournament with a score of 78 before tallying an 81 for a total of (+14) 230.

Junior Cameron Scitern (T35) finished one stroke behind Pierson with (+15) 231. He improved each round as he tallied scores of 79, 77 and 75, respectively.

Behind Scitern was freshman Dallas Hill. After leading the Tigers with a 74 on day one, Hill shot an 82 in the second round. He improved the next day by carding a (+4) 76.  His final score of (+16) 232 was good for 37th place.

Sophomore Andrew Warner (T41) carded rounds of 79, 77 and 79 for a total score of (+19) 235.

The tournament champion wasn't decided until the last hole as Jacksonville State edged Austin Peay by just one stroke with a three-under 861 to claim the title. Second place Austin Peay finished with (-2) 862 while Murray State rounded out the top three with (+2) 866.

Tennessee State will conclude the 2012 spring season, May 11-13, at the PGA National Minority Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
