Tennessee State University's James Stepp was named the Ohio Valley Conference Male Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.
Stepp, a native of Cheatham, Tenn., carded rounds of 74-75 to finish tied for fifth overall at the Alabama State Fall Golf Classic held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Capitol Hills in Prattville, Ala. Stepp's two-round total of 149 (+5) was eight strokes behind the individual medalist and earned him a spot on the all-tournament team.
The sophomore also recorded five birdies in the contest while ranking a fifth-best (-1) on Par 5 scoring.
After being named to the All-Newcomer team as a freshman, Stepp will look to build on last season's performance. He had the third-best stroke average on the team with a (+4) 75.7 and recorded two top 10 finishes. His season-low round was a 66 at the National Black College Invitational.
The Tigers return to action on Sept. 28 at the National Black Hall of Fame Golf Tournament in Atlanta, Ga.
