COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee State men's and women's cross country teams were back in action after a two week break as they competed at the Tennessee Tech Cross Country Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Tigerbelles finished fifth, while the Flying Tigers placed sixth as head coach Chandra Cheeseborough-Guice witnessed numerous of her runners cut significant time off their previous best.

The five scoring Tigerbelles all recorded season best times at the 5K distance. Freshman Oteia Prince was the first TSU runner to cross the finish line with a time of 21:36, good enough for a 16th place finish. Prince ran a career best at this distance, cutting just over three minutes off her previous record. Breanna Adams crossed in 23:20, just ahead of Charita Harris at 23:49. Harris reduced her previous best by a minute and a half.

Latia Carmey (24:28) and Gabrielle Todd (24:47) registered the final two qualifying spots. Michelle Bradley (25:49) was the first non-scoring Tigerbelle to cross the line and was followed by Ashontae Jackson (26:34), Diera Taylor (26:35) and Shani Cox (28:48). Jackson cut two and a half minutes off her best time.

Jamill Jackson (31:16) and Adrian McDaniel (31:18) crossed the tape just two seconds apart leading the Flying Tigers in the men's 8K race. Jackson placed 28th, one spot in front of McDaniel who posted a season best time. Jalon McCutcheon placed 32nd in a time of 32:02.

Theodore Nicholson (33:15) out sprinted Jonathan Owens (33:16) by seven-tenths of a second as both runners also posted season best times.

Donnie Johnson (33:55) led the non-scoring Flying Tigers edging out Vincent Gilmore (33:57) by two seconds. Michael Johnson (38:49), Jakeenen Guthrie (38:56), and Jason Griffin (38:59) rounded out the TSU runners.

Cross country will travel to Chattanooga next weekend to race in the Front Runner Invitational. The meet will take place early on Saturday, Oct. 13.
