Bloomington, Ind. - Three student-athletes represented the Tennessee State University men and women's track and field team at the NCAA East Preliminary Round hosted by Indiana University (E.C. Billy Hayes Track at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex).
With the competition ranging form some of the toughest teams and fastest competitors in the East region, Martinique Guice, Royce Dates and Michael Rideout missed qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship (Des Moines, Iowa - Drake University).
During the three-day meet, in each event, the top 16 moved on to the finals with the top 12 moving forward to the NCAA Championship to be held on June 8 - 11.
In the long jump, Guice (20"6.25) and Dates (24"08.25) entered the meet with the best jumps in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Guice, an eight-time OVC individual champion, finished seventh in the second flight of the preliminaries with a jump of 19"05.5 (5.93m) missing the finals in the event.
She closes out her career at TSU making four consecutive regional appearances after dominating the long jump in the OVC.
Guice capped her tenure notching her third consecutive indoor and outdoor long jump crowns this year. She also recorded wins in the 100m, and as a member of the 4x100m relay team, in her first season as a Tigerbelle.
Dates, after finishing third in the long jump at the OVC Outdoor Championship, ended his first year with the Flying Tigers finishing 12th in his flight. He posted a mark of 21"05.25 (6.53m).
On the track, Rideout entered the meet after recording his career fastest time in his last three races, including a second-place finish at the OVC Outdoor Championship.
He recorded his recent PR of 47.33s at the University of Louisville's last chance qualifier, Cardinal Twilight, his last time out. He finished this week with a time of 48.70s. Rideout missed the finals with his time ranking 37th in a field of 48.
