Louisville, Ky. - Tennessee State University 400m sprinter Michael Rideout spotlighted the Flying Tigers at the Cardinal Twilight hosted by the University of Louisville on Friday.
The meet was held at Cardinal Park Track and Soccer Stadium and served as a last chance qualifier for the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Round at the University of Indiana in Bloomington to be held May 26-28.
Rideout crossed the line in the 400m as the top collegiate finisher in the event recording a career time of 47.33s. For the third straight competition and fifth time this season, he posts his career fastest in the event.
The time strengthens Rideout's chance to qualify for the NCAA preliminary round. Overall, he finished fifth behind the unattached winner, Antoine Drakeford, (45.78s) and three members of the Venezuelan National Team.
Rideout's time ranks him 46th in the East region with the cutoff for qualification listed at 48.
Royce Dates and Arthur Combest were both entered to compete in their respective events.
Dates was held from competition to nurse a hamstring injury but qualified for the East preliminaries based on his jump of 24"8.5 (7.53m) at the Boston-Moon Classic in April. In his first year, Dates' jump ranks him 27th in a field of 48.
In the high jump, Combest did not clear a height, with the opening mark at 6"7.25. However, he still remains on the bubble with a chance to qualify after winning the event at the OVC Championship in early May. Combest recorded a career best with a mark of 6"9.75 (2.08m) to win his first outdoor title.
The final East region preliminary field of the top 48 per event will be released on May 19.
