Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee State University student-athlete, Daniecce Ward, will add another lane to her academic track when she travels to China to participate in Tennessee Consortium of International Studies' study abroad program.

Ward, a member of the Tigerbelles Track and Field team, was selected to represent TSU and will join other students and members of the United States CIA. She applied for the opportunity through TSU's Department of Research and Sponsored Programs under department head Mark Brinkley.

This particular program allows students in Tennessee to experience globalization first hand while being exposed to everyday living and activities in China.  While on the trip, the students will receive three college credits in either a Logistics or History course.

Ward, a nursing major and a native of Milwaukee, Wis., recently finished her junior year and is carrying a 3.5 grade point average. She will take part in the program from May 8-28.

Ward will study Introduction to Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The course examines the expanding field of efficient computer supported warehouses and logistics from an operations management standpoint.

Topics will include supply chain management, order processing, traffic management, electronic data interchange, handling and tracking shipments, scheduling of work, diagramming work and product flow, safety programs, and security issues.

"I count it as a blessing, honor and indeed a privilege to be selected for this great life changing experience," said Ward. "I'm truly thankful that I was selected over the numerous amounts of students that applied for the program."

Ward's venture comes a week after she completed a career season on the track. She posted a personal best in the triple jump, 37"5.75 (11.42m), to finish third overall at the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship in early May. RECAP...

In addition to studying overseas through the program, one purpose is to strengthen the pertinent relations between the U.S. and China. The program will primarily take place at Lida University located in the city of Shanghai and will also included a three day tour of Beijing.

The trip will include visits to the The Great Wall of China and the home of the 2008 Olympics, The Bird's Nest and Olympic Circle.

The location gives the students a great opportunity to experience the historical, cultural, and geographical importance of China and provides the foundation to understanding the people, history, culture and government of a civilization that is more than 5,000 years old.

In addition, the program also shows the influence of ancient Chinese medicine, art and religion on the world and the way in which China attempts to balance economical and political development with ancient customs, rituals, and beliefs.
