Murray, Ky. - The Tigerbelles took first in the long jump while scoring 14 total points in the event to help Tennessee State University score 15.5 team points after day one of the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Friday.
TSU added points from their performance in two other events to currently hold the sixth spot in the team rankings entering into Saturday's finals.
Eastern Illinois currently sits first with 74 points with Southeast Missouri State following second with 53.
Martinique Guice capped her reign in the long jump notching the three-peat in the event during the outdoor competition.
Guice recorded 6.07m in the event bringing her career individual championship titles, including indoor and outdoor competition, to eight overall. Guice won her third consecutive indoor title in the long jump in February.
On the track, Guice qualified for the finals in the 100m with a time of 12.22s. In the 400m, Ashley Taylor (56.08s) and Gabrielle Todd (56.08s) both qualified with Brittney Washington (2:16.14) making the cut for the 800m finals on Saturday.
The Tigerbelles also tacked on points courtesy of the high jump and discus throw. Daniecce Ward finished sixth in the long jump (5.24m) and shared the eighth spot in the high jump (1.58m).
Andrea Fenderson and Teannah Holland both finished eighth in their respective events. Fenderson posted a mark of 5.15m in the long jump and Holland tossed 38.88m in the discus to round out the scoring in the event.
The Tigerbelles will close out competition on day two of the OVC Championship on Saturday, May 7. The first event will begin at 8 a.m. on the Marshall Gage Track inside Stewart Stadium.
